ACCESS College Foundation
*The video depicts the impact that ACCESS' comprehensive college access/success and career connection program has made on students and families in South Hampton Roads and Northampton County, Virginia; and features the successes of ACCESS Alumni who have returned to Hampton Roads in their professions.
ACCESS College Foundation is a privately funded, non-profit organization with a unique continuum of services that provide low-income public school students with access to education and training after high school. Over 30 years, ACCESS has helped more than 60,000 students from South Hampton Roads go to college, while leveraging $625 million in financial aid and scholarships to make their educational paths possible. The result? Changed lives, changed families, changed communities.
ACCESS helps 4,000 graduating high school seniors enroll in college and training programs each year. To bridge the gap between the amount of financial aid received and the actual cost of attending college, our foundation awards need-based ACCESS "Last-Dollar" Scholarships to high school students who are pursuing postsecondary education. Students who have benefited from the ACCESS program have an overall 6-year retention and graduation rate of over ninety percent (90%) as compared to the current national average of fifty-nine percent (59%).
The guidance, mentoring and financial aid sown into these students has been paid back exponentially to Hampton Roads, as seventy-two percent (72%) of these graduates return to become the doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, and innumerable other valuable roles our community is founded upon.
